NANCY DRISCOLL, LPA
I have always been fascinated and concerned about the learning and behavioral needs of children in schools. Since the pandemic, these needs are all the more pressing as we try to help students return to school and attain missed skills while learning new ones. This has been a daunting time for students, parents, and schools. As a school psychologist for many years, my training and experience with learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum disorders, Traumatic Brain Injury, and health impairments such as ADHD and Anxiety helps me bridge the gap between educational policies and procedures and clinical practice. In helping families understand their children’s challenges, I can provide actionable steps for working with and in schools while strengthening the school to home connection. As a former home schooler and private school coordinator, I am also an advocate for educational choice.
I did my training in school psychology at UNC-Chapel Hill and have worn a variety of hats since then. I returned full time to the field of school psychology in 2004 and have served pre-school through college including working with high-need populations. My goal in student evaluation is to understand each student as an individual, not just as a diagnosis. By figuring out the “why” of a student’s struggles, we can empower them and their families and teachers to find the best ways for them to learn and grow.
Personally, I am a Buckeye at heart (Go Bucks!) but have lived in NC for many years. I am “Mom” to five and “Nana” to three (and one third!). I love cooking and baking and collect cookbooks. We have a large garden that supports the side gigs of two daughters who create wellness products from our herbs and botanicals and supplies us with veggies for the daughter who loves to can and care for our chickens. I look forward to helping families find the “aha” moment of really understanding their student’s struggles and to offering ideas for happier and more successful outcomes.
